Understand Pain

Understand pain to change pain

BASRaT is proud to be a partner of UP | Understand Pain

UP | Understand Pain is an awareness campaign highlighting the enormous global problem of chronic pain.

It is estimated that 20% of people suffer chronic pain, including children.

Understand Pain was set up because chronic pain is misunderstood, this is one of the reasons that it is such an enormous problem. Like any problem, to solve it requires understanding - UP aims to understand pain to change pain.

UP aims to:

  • raise awareness of the scale of this societal problem
  • deliver the right messages about pain
  • raise money to support research into a modern model of pain that will advance the success of the treatment of pain

UP is involved with and supports modern pain research. UP will raise awareness through music events #upandsing and running races across the UK #upandrun.

Why?

UP believes that any painful condition requires an accurate and compassionate assessment with treatment based upon the latest understanding of pain. It is vital that within the treatment programme, the person understands their pain and the influences, this will aid change and help them to overcome their pain, resuming a meaningful life. Everyone has the right to this information.

The UP campaign was co-founded by Richmond Stace and Georgie Standage who launched the campaign with a singing event at Heathrow Terminal 5 in March 2015 performed by over 700 Rock Choir members.

UP is the voice for people with persistent pain, using music and song to tell people that there is a way forward beginning with understanding pain and learning how to translate this into effective action for success.

If you are a pain sufferer, a clinician who works with people suffering persistent pain, a carer, a policy maker or a charity for a condition that is painful, UP would love to hear from you: please email upandsing@gmail.com. Follow UP on Twitter @upandsing and on Facebook.
